On April 26, Zhang Mengxing, MCC President and Deputy Secretary of MCC Party Committee, met with Sagala Gajendra Ratnayaka, Sri Lankan Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping & Southern Development, and his delegation, who attended the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, at the MCC Tower.
Mr. Zhang started with extending his warm welcome to Minister Ratnayaka and his delegation to visit MCC. He said that the BRI provides a good opportunity for China and Sri Lanka to promote cooperation in infrastructure, and thereby MCC is ready to help Sri Lanka boost its development and enhance the well-being of its people. Mr. Zhang stressed that the Sri Lankan airport expressway project and the outer ring expressway project undertaken by MCC serve as a good beginning for cooperation between the two sides, and MCC is willing to make more contributions to the infrastructure development in Sri Lanka. Later, Mr. Zhang briefed Minister Ratnayaka on the progress of the multi-purpose development project for the river basins in the south and southwest of Sri Lanka and the multi-purpose development project for Galle City. He hoped that the Sri Lankan government would continue to give strong support in policies, resources allocation and departmental coordination with the aim of facilitating the earlier implementation of the project.
Minister Ratnayaka expressed his recognition and appreciation to MCC for its long-term assistance in Sri Lanka's infrastructure. He said that he would further support the cooperation in the two aforementioned projects with MCC. He hoped MCC would continue to accelerate the implementation of these projects and further strengthen Sri Lanka-China cooperation in infrastructure.
Other attendees include Xu Yongjie, head of MCC Overseas Engineering Management Department, Fan Jintian, general manager of MCC International Incorporation Ltd., Wang Zhou, deputy general manager of the aforementioned company, and Shen Xin, head of the Market Development Department II of the company.
